We are so excited that work has begun to demolish the current buildings in Manor Road, Dorridge, and build the new structure, complete the church and landscape the site. As of today a staggering £3.52 million has been raised primarily through the generosity of members of St Philip’s and St James’ church and the generosity of trusts.
Not only are we building a new worship space, we are building a whole new centre for our community which we plan to open 7 days a week ,there will be nowhere like this in Dorridge or Bentley Heath for our community. We are thrilled at the prospect of creating a multi-purpose facility for all ages,; the new centre will be used to support the elderly and the more vulnerable in our society, we will be hosting regular “Friendship Clubs” bringing those who may feel alone or do not have family close by, to meet for afternoon tea and fellowship, and host key events during the year such as carol concerts and craft events.
We are also planning to ensure that this is a dementia friendly space, so we can open our drop in café and ensure that all members of our community can feel safe and welcome.
We are also planning to create a space where our youth can meet safely, utilise the sports facilities or simply drink coffee(catch/meet up with their friends) and make use of the Wi-Fi, this will complement the existing youth activity led by our youth worker.
The purpose built meeting rooms can be booked by anyone in our community and we will also be able to host children’s parties and community events. For concert use the building has been designed to optimise its acoustics. We also hope to host Ladies Fellowship and groups for Parents and Children to meet. We hope this will be the new home of the Dorridge Fun run from 2022, so enabling us to restart a huge community event raising money for many local charities. The new facility will have disabled access including a lift to the upper floor so will be totally inclusive.
We are so very nearly there in terms of raising all the funds we need, in fact we have enough money to build and fit out the worship space, build the shell of the community centre and landscape the site, but we still need an additional £950K to complete the fit out of the new centre. We have launched a brand new fundraising appeal and we ask you to consider donating to making this new centre possible
